CHRISTMAS
PARTY
!!!
December Guild Meeting |

Dear CPQG Member,
Can you believe it, this year is almost gone. Where has all the time
gone? I, for one, am about six months behind on all the projects that
are in progress. I hope all of you are doing better than that. Our group
has had a lot of lows with all the loved ones we have lost and a lot of
highs with all the great gatherings and friendships that were formed.
It's time to think about what the future has in store for us. I hope
everyone has a happy, enjoyable, and loving holiday season. Don't forget
the Christmas get together in a couple of weeks. Just remember that
there are no calories in any of the goodies that will be consumed at the
party (sure). On the serious side, we will elect the people that will
carry our guild into the new year at this meeting. There will be a Board
meeting within the first two weeks of the new year for the purpose of
setting up a new budget. May all of your wishes come true and your New
Year's resolutions be realistic.

Note from the
Newsletter Editor
My son Patrick is graduating from
college on December 15th. With a houseful of guests coming and a party
to put together, I had to get the newsletter out a couple of days
earlier than usual. I apologize if anything is missing. I will be sure
to put it in the January newsletter. Thanks.

Cotton
Patch Quilt Guild
Regular
Meeting, November 15, 2001
Kavanaugh
Methodist Church, 6:30 pm
An
"intimate" group of twenty-four members and one guest, Shelly
Childers, met at Kavanaugh United Methodist Church on November 15, 2001.
The only member of the Executive Board not on retreat, Katharine McCaw,
presided.
Business:
There were no standing committee reports. Everybody at retreat.
Paula TALLEY (now!) brought her friendship blocks to be signed. These
will be incorporated into her Wedding Quilt. Congratulations, Paula and
Randy ! We're all so grateful that Belva Isham's husband is recovering
from a 12-hour major surgery. Everyone was reminded to bring a needle
and red or green thread to the December 20 meeting,( remember, the 3rd
Thursday ) which will be a covered dish meal. Also, bring a wrapped
gift, with the donor's name inside; handmade, or five to ten dollars if
purchased. Sarah Bobbitt reported that her committee has put together a
proposed slate of officers for next year: President, Huey Nobles;
Vice-President/Programs, Pebble Rehm; Recording Secretary, Katharine
McCaw; Treasurer, Connie Cawthon; Corresponding Sec./Membership, Roberta
Vanderburg; Librarian, Joan Biggs; Newsletter Editor, Pam Hodapp.
Program:
Jan Ainsworth, popular quilting teacher and one of our talented guild
members, showed us what to keep in mind when selecting contrasting
fabrics. Jan's artistic background became very obvious as she
demonstrated the use of the color wheel, and explained the elements of
texture, value and pattern. We then observed how she incorporated these
concepts into a number of quilts she brought with her.
Show
and Tell followed - Sherry Worley took it literally; ask her about
her Tell. There were four door prize winners - sorry, your secretary
didn't get their names because she was busy wearing another hat !
Respectfully,
Katharine
McCaw– Recording Secretary

FRIENDSHIP
CIRCLES
Cotton
Blossoms
The Cotton Blossoms met November 19th. We welcomed a new
member, Beverly Housewright, by showing her how to tie a quilt as we
completed our group crazy quilt and then we showed her all about Quillos
as we helped Madeline get her fabric ready to make a Christmas gift. We
enjoyed good fellowship and then exchanged 10" squares in order to
get Beverly started on her stash.
December 3 the Blossoms again met for the annual Christmas party. With
Christmas music playing, we began with show and tell. Joyce had made
Christmas pillows and Priscilla had made a Raggedy Ann doll to accompany
the Raggedy Ann and Andy quilt she made for her granddaughter. Gifts
were exchanged and Christmas Carols were sung. We then enjoyed everyone’s
cookies and with what was left we exchanged, taking home a nice variety.
We look forward to January 7, 2002
when we will begin a new year. Come join us.
Cotton
Strippers
The Cotton Strippers will meet on December 13th for a Christmas
party. Everyone needs to bring a covered dish. No presents will be
exchanged other than Secret Pal gifts. The minutes for the meeting will
be reported in the January newsletter.
Cotton Belles
The
Cotton Belles will meet on December 14th. They will have the new
cookbooks for sale at the December meeting. All the proceeds from the
sale of the cookbooks go to charity. The January meeting will be held on
the 7th at the home of Allen & Betty Day. The Ugly Block challenge
is due at the January meeting. The program is Pillow Cases by Sherry
Worley. You may watch or work along. If you would like to make some,
bring sewing machine, or serger, BSK, the fabric needed (for each
standard sized case) is for main body of case - 40 1/2" x 26",
for accent strip - 2 1/2" x 40 1/2", for cuff or hem area 9
1/2" x 40 1/2". They look great in holiday fabrics, or kid's
fabrics. Susan will provide the dessert. The Cotton Belles want to wish
everyone a safe and Happy Holiday Season.
Sunbonnet
Sues
The Sunbonnet Sues met at the home of Sara Bobbitt for our December
meeting. We had a full house! Everyone worked on their individual
projects and we had a few show and tells. Tentative plans were made for
a possible mini-retreat at Pebble’s house in February. A special
thanks to Maki and Katharine for the nice gift and thanks to Sara for
hosting and for the wonderful snacks. The January meeting will be held
at the church on January 3rd with everyone bringing potluck.

Belva
Isham’s husband, Robert, is recovering from major surgery. The almost
13 hour long surgery went well and his doctors are well pleased with his
progress.
Our
thoughts and prayers are with each one of them and their families.

Charm Squares
Exchange
We will be cutting 26 Squares this
month. The following is a schedule for the next year . Bring your new
squares to Sue Childers and pick yours up if you were in last month’s
exchange. There will be a sign up sheet for the next year. We are asking
those interested in doing the exchange to commit themselves through
January of 2002 so that we can prepare our fabrics according to a final
count and be able to purchase them when they are on sale. Thanks.
