GUILD
PROGRAM
July 26, 2001 – 6:30
p.m.
Guest
Speaker:
Sandra
Douglas
"Fabric
to Dye For"
Sandra
Douglas has developed a method of fabric dyeing that is simpler, easier and less
of a mess than any you have ever done (or thought about doing) before. She
will not only talk about her marvelous method, but actually demonstrate (with
the help of a few volunteers) this magic method right before your very eyes. She
will show us various effects she has created with different types of fabric
manipulation, emersion dyeing, gradation dyeing and fabric painting. She will
inspire you to think of fabric dyeing as more "doable" than ever
before.

FABRIC DYEING WORKSHOP
After seeing Sandra Douglas’ fabric
dyeing program at the July guild meeting, you will likely be dieing to dye your
own fabric. Sandra will teach a workshop on 4 separate fabric dyeing procedures.
The first is immersion dyeing, which will be demonstrated during the July
program and which results in 20 different colors. The second is gradation dyeing
which is several shades of a single color. The 3rd is fabric
manipulation to get different effects of the dye on the fabric. The last is
fabric painting.
This is a four hour class. You will go
home with 48 fat quarters all dyed in different colors and designs as well as a
little extra mixed dye and dye powder to continue experimenting at home. It will
cost $15 per person with a minimum of 10 people. If more than 10 sign up, the
cost is reduced per person. There is also a $20 supply fee. Sandra orders the
dye powder and other ingredients for us at a reduced rate.
The dates will be set later in the fall .

Cotton Patch Quilt Guild
Regular Meeting, June 27,
2001 Kavanaugh Methodist Church, 6:30 p.m.
Program:
Huey Nobles opened the June 27, 2001 meeting of the Cotton
Patch Quilt Guild by calling on Paula Bowman, who introduced Ginger Thomas as
the winner of this year's raffle Railroad Quilt. Thomas graciously accepted the
quilt, and admired its intricate hand quilting.
A second presentation then followed. Fran Walker is the director of the WIN
shelter in Greenville. She accepted our gift of over thirty quilts for the beds
in the new shelter, scheduled to open in early August. This is the culmination
of a three-month effort on the part of
the guild, and represents yet another way in which the guild becomes involved in
the community.
Pebble Rehm introduced The Overachievers, otherwise known as Debbie and Andrea,
from Aubrey, Texas. The reason for their name quickly became apparent as they
began to display what seemed like well over one hundred quilts and quilt tops
that had, for the most part, been made during a two to three year period of
time. Their collection ranged from pure whimsy to Best-Of-Show quality, from 30s
reproductions to Amish solids, thoroughly entertaining and humorously
competitive banter.
Business:
Huey recognized Corinne Lageose, from
the Van Alstyne guild, who had made a raffle quilt to help defray the expenses
of her son's mission trip to Africa.
Katharine McCaw reported that she, Debra Hager and Joy Gregory had met to begin
discussing how best to spend approximately $1800 in surplus funds. The committee
is considering the establishment of a scholarship, and will report in more depth
at the next guild meeting. Any guild member who would like to attend and provide
input at the next committee meeting is invited to join them at 4:00 p.m. on July
7 at Kavanaugh.
Ruth Bacon reported that during the first five months of the
year raffle donations for the Railroad Quilt had brought in $1206.00
Mary Lou Strohm thanked all those who had returned overdue library books and
equipment. Ruth Bacon and Sue Childers presented an award to our own Allen Day,
who had entered a quilt in the Tulsa Quilt Show. Sue suggested that we think
about establishing a guild stash, to replenish some of the fabric our members
donated in making the WIN quilts.
The Jacobean Applique workshop is July 7 from 9:00 to 4:00.
Next month's program will be a surprise.
There were lots of Show and Tells this month, followed by door prize drawings
won by Shirley Shaw, Letha Bost, Barbara Ratcliff, Joan Biggs, Annette Schwartz,
Donna Moon and Katharine McCaw.
Fifty-one members were in attendance. We welcomed five visitors: Corinne Lageose,
Fran Walker, Jeanne Basllard, Ginger Thomas and Lisa King. A special welcome to
three new members: Carolyn Burt, Jane Asberry and Doris McManus.
Respectfully,
Katharine
McCaw– Recording Secretary

Sues
The
Sunbonnet Sues met in the wonderful sewing room of Joan Biggs. Everyone had a
great time sewing on their projects, visiting, looking at her long arm, and of
course, the refreshments were wonderful. Jane discussed some tentative plans for
the Houston Quilt show and is in the process of making motel reservations. This
trip is open to all Guild members since the group is staying at a motel. Kathy
handed out squash and cucumbers from her garden which was greatly appreciated.
The next meeting will be held at Maxines new home in Greenville. Directions will
be emailed before the meeting.
