Mystery
Quilt
I
will unveil the first of three patterns (one each month) starting at the
April guild meeting. The blocks are only 9 inches finished. The finished
quilt size is 54X54 with doing one 12 block exchange. There is a second quilt
pattern also presented at the end that is 72X72 or even a little larger if a
person wants to do a second 12 block exchange or add more blocks themselves.

Cotton
Patch Quilt Guild
Regular Meeting, March 28, 2002
Kavanaugh
Methodist Church, 6:30 p.m.
BUSINESS
The Cotton Patch Quilt Guild welcomed 41 members and four guests to the March
28, 2002 meeting at Kavanaugh United Methodist Church in Greenville. Huey
Nobles presided. A special welcome to new members, Pat Jonz, Susan James and
Mary Lambert Smith. Treasurer, Connie Cawthon, reported a balance of
$2,885.19. Sherry Worley has provided quilt kits and asked that members
complete the quilts as a community service project. As an incentive, some of
the kits contain gift certificates from Quilts on the Square. Sherry also
announced a clearance price of $10.00 or 3/$25.00 on the Plano Guild
cookbook.
The Red, White and Blue Challenge entry forms are due at the April meeting;
projects are due at the May meeting. They will then be displayed at Quilts on
the Square. Beth Winn and Shirley Shaw showed the king-sized donation quilt
they have made for the Shriners. Jane Martyn announced that the committee to
study pros and cons of incorporation has met and will report to the guild
soon. Barbara Booth reminded the guild of the quilt show to be held at the
armory in Terrell April 20 and 21. Business was concluded with Show and Tell
and drawings for Door Prizes.
PROGRAM
Kay Colcleasure introduced our speaker, Carol Chaffin, and her daughter,
Adrienne, who presented a program on Seminole patchwork piecing. Chaffin
began by providing a historical background of the technique, the Native
American origins in Florida and journey across the Trail of Tears into
Oklahoma. Headquarters and museum are now located in Weewoka, OK. She then
demonstrated the distinctive strip piecing that produces such unique and
colorful patterns, and displayed wonderful applications on jackets, towels,
T-shirts and quilts.
The meeting on April 25 will feature Jenna Oke presenting "Blue Square
and the Bed".
Respectfully,
Katharine McCaw, Recording Secretary

Cotton
Belles
The Cotton Belles met in the home of Bernice Tipton. The
members were reminded that the Red, White and Blue guild challenge forms are
to be turned in at the May meeting of the Greenville Quilt Guild. The members
worked on Snowman candy jars to be donated to the F.I.S.H. Ministries bazaar.
The next meeting, May 6, will be held at Walworth Harrison Library. We will
meet at 9:30 in the library. Carol Taylor will conduct a tour of the library
and present a program on genealogy

Cotton
Blossoms
A
group of Blossoms braved the rainy weather for an all day workday on March
18. We didn't let the rain dampen our spirits as we worked on various
projects and visited with each day. It was a fun and productive day. We met
again on April 1 for a regular meeting. Each member brought two ugly fat
quarters and we exchanged and each member will make two blocks and then we
will put them together for a quilt. We meet again on April 15 for a refresher
course on stack and whack presented by Joyce McCord.

Cotton
Strippers
The Strippers met April 11 with 2 guests
present. The food provided was great and after everyone had a nice, long
visit, our unofficial dictator called the meeting to order. Guests were
introduced. Katharine reminded members about the July retreat. If you
haven’t paid please get your money in. The limit of people at the retreat
will be 25. Those dates are July 18-20 and only dinner will be provided. The
refreshments for May will be provided by Joy, Debbie, Mary Lou, Sara, Joan
and Vicki. Show and tell followed and then the Border Bash girls showed off
their quilts.

Sunbonnet
Sues
The
members of the Sunbonnet Sues met at the home of Kathy Vestal. The next
meeting will be held at the home of Maejean with a trip to the mountain the
next day for those that are able to go.

MISCELLANEOUS

This year we're doing a different challenge. Choose any
project, UFO or start something new. In December we'll all bring our FINISHED
projects to guild and have our very own quilt show! Imagine eating dinner
surrounded by quilts. By the November meeting I'll need something jotted down
about your project--why you made it, if it was hard, etc. There will be a
good surprise for everyone that brings something! Remember, the quilt should
be unseen by the guild prior to the December meeting.
