Dear CPQG Member,

This month is a time for all of us to reflect on what has happened to us, our families, our friends, and our country. A lot has happened since that frightful day last year. The lives and outlook of each person around the globe has been greatly affected. We have given, with open arms and hearts, our time, our special talents, and our resources to our neighbors, both near and far. Take a little time this month to do something a little special for someone that requires a little help to make it through another day.

September Guild Meeting

September 26, 2002

6:30 p.m.

Guest Speaker: Terri Vogds

"Strip-Pieced

&

Quick-Cut"

Terri Vogds, from Denton, has developed a fast and fun way to make Easy Twist frames to accent your quilt blocks. She will show you, using this easy method, how to strip-piece twisted frames for 4", 6", 8", 10" & 12" finished blocks using her specially designed Easy Twist cutting template. You can frame pieced, appliquéd or fussy cut blocks faster than you can cut and sew using traditional methods.

COTTON PATCH QUILT GUILD

Regular Meeting, August 22, 2002 Kavanaugh Methodist Church, 6:30 pm

PROGRAM
Forty members and two guests attended the August 22 meeting of the Cotton Patch Quilt Guild at Kavanaugh United Methodist Church in Greenville. Welcome to Lee Thomas and Debbie George. We hope you'll join us again!

Pebble Rehm introduced the speaker for the evening, Lisa Erlander, who entertained and enlightened us with "You
Paid HOW Much For That Quilt?" We learned the difference between value and price, as well as the determining factors in setting value. Number 1 is Condition, followed by Availability (to replace), Design (original?), Workmanship, Historical Interest and Age. Prior to the meeting, Lisa had privately appraised quilts for Jane Martyn, Norlyn Quinn, Mary Lou Strohm, Barbara Ratcliff and Allen Day.

BUSINESS

Sherry Worley and the Cotton Belles set up a raffle project consisting of several hundred dollars worth of quilting supplies. Kay Colcleasure was the lucky winner. All proceeds will be used to buy supplies for future community service projects.
The Seminole Patchwork workshop will be this Saturday, August 24, at the church.
Betty Day distributed tickets for the Butterfly donation quilt.
Door prizes were won by: Ginny Keith, Lisa Erlander, Joan Biggs, Donna Moon, Beth Winn, Maxine Leverett, Kay Colcleasure, Sue Miller, Debra Hager, Jane Martyn, Gladys Trammel and Pat Jonz.
It was good to hear that Doris McManus is home from the hospital and doing well after having knee replacement.
Following Show and Tell, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully,
Katharine McCaw, Recording Secretary

The F.I.S.H. Food Pantry is in desperate need of canned goods. They would also appreciate monetary donations. Please help if you can. Thank you.

This year we're doing a different challenge. Choose any project, UFO or start something new. In December we'll all bring our FINISHED projects to guild and have our very own quilt show! Imagine eating dinner surrounded by quilts. By the November meeting I'll need something jotted down about your project--why you made it, if it was hard, etc. There will be a good surprise for everyone that brings something! Remember, the quilt should be unseen by the guild prior to the December meeting.

FRIENDSHIP CIRCLES

Cotton Belles

We had to change our meeting until September 16.

Cotton Blossoms

Cotton Blossom Quilt Circle news for September newsletter:

The Cotton Blossoms Review, Review. August 19th the circle met and heard 3 magazine reviews. Helen Rowe reviewed Quilt World, May 2001, Madeline Sullivan reviewed Quick & Easy, June 2002 and Lorene Leinart, McCall’s Quilting, Feb. 1999. This was enjoyable. We heard things we had missed while perusing our own issues, or maybe we had not had the chance to even read these particular magazines.

For Show & Tell members brought completed Slap Happy Stars and Norlyn showed a pillow case and a Yellow Brick Road quilt made for great nieces. Lorene shared progress she and Joyce had made on squares from the book Stack & Wackier.

It was decided to take our Quillos to Boles Home on Sept. 24th and all Mickey D quilts are due September 16.

Joyce told us about a Blade Exchange with L.P. Sharp Co. Next meeting everyone will bring their old rotary blades and they will be sent in together.

The Blossoms met again on Labor Day for a day of labor. We met early and helped each other pin baste quillos and a couple UFO's. Show and tells were enjoyed. Instructions for a mystery project were passed out. This project will begin at our next meeting Sept. 16.

Cotton Strippers

Only 16 Cotton Strippers met at the Church building on Thursday night. Several members had gone to the Springfield, Missouri quilt show. New member Tracy Greenlee joined the group and a good time was had by all working on individual projects. Thanks to Annette, Anna, Roberta, Elaine, Sara and Maki for the wonderful dinner, salad and desserts. A vote was taken not to bring soft drinks for our meals. We will live with tea and water for now. Also, members were encouraged to think about what they would like to do for the Christmas party (is that coming up already?) or another round robin or block exchange starting in January.  Sue gave a retreat update. The Fall Retreat is now open to non-members. There are approximately 30 people going which is less than normal so we might have to cough up a few extra bucks before that weekend is over. The Strippers have a balance of $279 in their account. It was decided that we did not need an audit of Sara’s bookkeeping. Remember your secret pal.

Refreshments for October will be hosted by Kay, Maejean, and Paula who will provide dessert and salad as we will order pizza. We will postpone playing Quilt-O until the December Christmas party.

Sunbonnet Sues

The Sue’s met at the quilt studio of Joan Biggs. Everyone had a wonderful time and enjoyed looking at Donna’s snowman quilt on the big machine. Everyone did a good job of not talking about Jane’s surprise birthday party! Joan had even made Jane’s favorite dessert from the Pampered Chef party which everyone enjoyed.. Plans were made for the trip to Springfield, Missouri show. The next meeting will be at Jane’s house where logistics will be discussed for the Houston quilt festival. Don’t forget to get your deposit to Jane by the end of the month.

Note to the Membership

If it wouldn't be a problem, please do not wear heavy perfumes to Guild. Several of our members are highly allergic. Thanks!
