Our
Library has had a total of 20 books donated to our library this year. This
month we have had the following books donated to the Library:
Life
is not a Dress Size, donated by Beth Winn
Daddy's
Ties, Donated By Pam Hodapp
Necktie
Sampler Blocks donated by Pam Hodapp
Every
Quilt Has a Story donated by Pam Hodapp
The
Good News is that Chuck took me to the 75% off store in Greenville and in
Plano as well as Hobby Lobby's half off books sale and added another 10
books to our Guild Library. The bad news is that our Library fund is now
out of money. The good news is that we will have another overstock sale at
our next meeting and will accept books that you may want to donate to your
Guild Library. Books from the request list that I have not been able to
find and that someone may have and wish to donate to our library are as
follows: If you have any of these that you would like to donate to our
library your fellow members would be grateful.

Treasurer’s
Report
No Report received.

Just
a Few Minutes
The
Cotton Patch Quilt Guilt met in regular session at Kavanaugh United
Methodist Church, Greenville, Texas, June 26, 2003. President Katharine
McCaw convened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. welcoming 34 members and guests,
Jake Sheffield, Michelle Valdez, Erin Taylor, and Kay Hatfield.
She thanked the social meeting hostesses for the food they
provided from 6:30 to 7:00.
President McCaw then accepted business
reports of the Guild. In the treasurer’s report, a beginning balance of
$3222.16, inflows of $618.00, outflows of 347.60, and an ending balance of
$3,492.56 was reported. Librarian,
Sue Childers passed the money jug and then reported that the library
budget was $35.00 richer. Pebble
Rehm gave a preview of the July program and passed out the mystery quilt
pattern for the month. Sherry
Worley said that the Community Service Committee had 13 quilts ready for
donation. Gwen Schroth reported
that 33 blocks were ready to put together for the 2004 raffle quilt, and
invited members to join the Design Committee on July 1, at 10:00 a.m.,
at Kavanaugh United Methodist
Church to put the blocks together.
Rehm introduced the program speaker, Nan
Bentley, a recreation therapist from the Rutherford Senior Center in
Mesquite. The program consisted of a total body experience (seated in a
chair) as Bentley directed members through exercises that help to
alleviate the rigidity of arthritis and the tension that quilters
experience at the sewing machine or over quilting frames.
In other reports Nancy Nall stated that
Alan Day was a judge at the Mesquite Quilt Show.
Show and Tell presenters were Taylor, Donna Moon, Jane Martyn,
Lisa Coker, Worley, and Rehm. Sheffield,
guest, was one of the many winners of door prizes presented twice during
the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. by
President McCaw.
Sunshine & Shadows
Brenda Finn, Donna Moon’s daughter, has
been recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Treatment method not decided
as of this week. Donna has been in North Richland Hills with her.
Amon Nixson, Maejean’s husband, had hip
replacement surgery and is doing O.K.
Tracy Greenlee’s step-grandfather, Arthur
Fulton, Teague, TX age 90, passed away on July 9.

Friendship Circles
Cotton Belles
The Cotton Belles June meeting was a small gathering
in the small dining room at Kavanaugh United Methodist Church. During the
business meeting we discussed having the stocking quilt quilted. We are
happy to say that it is being quilted by Vickie Dees in Celeste, and we
hope to have it back sometime this month. Also discussed was working on
Santa's for the FISH auction at our next meeting. Our thoughts are with
Bernice who won’t be able to be with us for a while. We were very happy
to welcome our visitor Norel to our meeting. Marcia showed us the cutest
set for a baby’s room, all gingham and flowers with a little embroidery
done on her new machine. Sue brought some Grandmother’s Flower Garden
Blocks she has been working on for several years. Kay is whipping right
through her challenge list of 12 items in this year. She shared pillow
case dolls and decorated tote in a tote bags. (She only has three more
things on her list!) Sherry finished (at the meeting) her two mini quilts
for the mini auction at Quilt Plano in August and showed some glass beads
she made taking a class with her sister. Our next meeting is on August 4th
at 10:00 in the small dining room. Kaye will be sharing a neat new method
for making pillowcases, Sherry will bring dessert, and we will begin
painting Santa's.
Sherry Worley
Cotton Blossoms
The Cotton Blossom
circle met on June 15 at the Children's Museum of Commerce. Tina Selvaggi
demonstrated the loom and gave a very informative talk on different wools
and other materials used in weaving. It was very enjoyable for everyone.
The Blossoms then decided to give the sampler quilt, that we have been
working on, to the museum for a fund raiser. They will be selling raffle
tickets on it at the museum and also at the bash in October.
Our group met again on July 7 at the Presbyterian
Church in Commerce. We had lots of show and tell at this meeting. Joyce
had finished her Ronald McDonald challenge quilt and Madeline also had her
challenge quilt ready to show. Lil Logue had a quilt almost finished for
her great-grandson. Priscilla had her grandmother's album quilt pieced and
ready to hand quilt. Belva had a wall hanging to show. Our group has been
productive lately. After show and tell we pinned or basted quilts for some
of our members, and made plans for future meetings. We meet on the 1st.
and 3rd Monday of each at the Presbyterian Church in Commerce.

Good friends are like
stars...you don’t always see them, but you know they are always there.!

Community Service
At the July Guild meeting, the Community
Service will have another raffle basket donation opportunity. The proceeds
from the basket will go toward our support of the Greenville Public
Library. The basket this time is a vintage picnic basket. It is stuffed
with goodies like patterns, a short cut strip cutting aide, a border hoop,
and lots more! If you have any nice items that you would like to donate
for inclusion in the basket please bring them to the meeting. If you would
like to donate books to the Greenville Library we will collect them at the
next two Guild Meetings. All of the books that we donate to the Library
will contain basic information about the Guild.

ATTENTION - GUILD OFFICERS
The next meeting of the executive board will be July 21, 2003, at 6:30
p.m. at the Cracker Barrel in Greenville. Please be thinking about topics
and issues that should be brought before the board. If your office works
within a budget, please have your YTD balance sheet available for each
board member.
Happy Birthday!

Life
is like a patchwork quilt
And
each little patch is a day,
Some
patches are rosy, happy and bright,
And
some are dark and gray.
But
each little patch as it’s fitted in
And
sewn to keep it together
Makes
a finished block in this life of ours
Filled
with sun, and with rainy weather.
So
let me work on Life’s patchwork quilt
Through
the rainy days and the sun
Trusting
that when I have finished my block
The
Master may say: “Well done.”
Elizabeth Ryan DeCoursey

Design
Committee
The
Design Committee has met and is busy squaring up the blocks, adding strips
where necessary and cutting back when there is extra material. We hope to
begin assembling the Patriotic Quilt in the next few weeks.
We
have 36 blocks so will have a quilt that is six blocks by six blocks!
Thanks to all those who contributed to this amazing quilt.
